Larvae of the Hummingbird Hawk-moth feed on species of Bedstraw, Ladies, Hedge, Marsh, Heath and some times Goosegrass / Cleevers and Wild Madder.
Ova are sometimes laid on the flowers of Red Valerian but very few larvae survive on this and is not recommended.
This species overwinters as a adult waking up to feed on mild days during the winter.
Available June to September.
Availability of this species is dependent on migration from Europe.
Adults need a large flight area to pair.
